A: We are located at 55 Hwy 49, Columbiana, AL 35051. Meetings and classes are held in the brick church building in front of Cornerstone Christian School.
Q: Who is the sponsoring church?
A: Bethel Baptist Church sponsors Charger Academy per Alabama state laws. They are located at 55 Hwy 49, Columbiana, AL 35051. Their phone number is 205-669-4836.
Q: How do I contact someone?
A: There are several ways. You can visit our Contact Us page, call the church office to request more information at 205-669-4836, visit our Facebook page, or email us directly at ChargerAcademy@cornerstonechargers.com. Our Administrator will receive and reply to each contact, normally usually within 24 hours or less.
Q: Who is the Charger Academy Administrator and how do I contact them?
A: Our Administrator is M. Michele Bradshaw, who graduated in 1996 with a B.S. in Architecture from Auburn University and practiced as an intern architect until she and her husband were blessed with their second child. For the past several years she has taught upper maths and sciences for a small group of homeschool families. If you have questions about CA please contact her at email@example.com.
Q: What are the office hours for Charger Academy?
A: The Administrator is typically at the school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please Contact Us to schedule a time to meet.
Q: What area does Charger Academy serve?
A: We primarily serve Shelby County, including Chelsea, Sterrett, Wilsonville, Harpersville, Childersburg, Columbiana, Helena, Calera, Alabaster, Vincent, Sylacauga, and surrounding areas. Special consideration may be given to those outside of this area.
Q: What is the enrollment/tuition cost?
A: We charge a flat fee per family per year. Please visit the At A Glance tab to see enrollment fees. If not paid by the due date, a late fee of $5 per month will be assessed beginning the first week after 15 August. Additional costs may be incurred if you choose to use additional services (attend classes at Cornerstone Christian School, take a dual enrollment course, standardized testing, and the like). Families may also choose to participate in group field trips/activities with Charger Academy, and each family would be responsible for the costs for those attending. The expenses for additional services and field trips are optional.
Q: When do you stop enrolling for the current school year?
A: The end of 3rd quarter of the current school year (usually the second week of March).
Q: How many mandatory meetings are held?
A: We require families to attend one mandatory meeting per year. This is normally held during a Saturday morning in early August. However, we hold optional sessions throughout the year for support and sharing among families.
Q: What documentation are families required to submit to Charger Academy throughout the year?
A: Charger Academy families sign up for Homeschool Reporting online and complete attendance reports and report cards at the end of each semester (Jan 31 for 1st semester and June 30 for 2nd semester), as well as document curriculum. Transcripts and records from previous schools are requested. Parents should read and agree to the Statement of Faith.
Q: Where can I find guidelines on what my children should cover per grade?
A: We recommend the ALEX standards which can be found here: http://alex.state.al.us/browseStand.php. Prior to 9th grade it is not as important to closely follow these standards. However, once in 9th grade, students should cover most of these courses to stay on track for college readiness.
Q: Are Charger Academy students allowed to play sports?
A: Our homeschool students are allowed to participate in sports with Trinity Christian Athletics. This group allows eligible students, regardless of cover school, to participate in team sports. Check their website for further information. TrinityChristianAthletics.org
Q: Does Charger Academy require HSLDA membership?
A: No, but we highly recommend it. We recommend that homeschooling families join HSLDA. The Charger Academy code is 210559. Even if you never experience legal trouble yourself, your HSLDA membership will help enable other homeschooling families to get the legal help they need and will help defend our right to homeschool here in Alabama. Membership in HSLDA also gives you personal access to the legal staff; HSLDA's experienced high school, struggling learners, and early years consultants; selling privileges at the HSLDA Curriculum Market; and discounts through HSLDA's PerX program. (For more information about HSLDA's many benefits, see www.hslda.org.).
